About & around Etretat

The address of Soleil du Matin was, at first, route du Havre but it was, later on, changed for 28 avenue George V, one of the main street of Etretat, a town with around 1500 inhabitants.

Soleil du Matin is located about 3 minutes away from the world famous beach and cliffs of Etretat and best known for their painters Monet, Courbet, Corot and Boudin, first artists to become fond of the town.

Number 28 stands on the same side of the Shallow Peak, mentioned by Maurice Leblanc in his novel « Arsène Lupin, Gentleman-Thief ». The old fishermen village became a fashionable sea resort during the XIXth century under journalist and novelist Alphonse Karr’s influence.

Guy de Maupassant  and Jacques Offenbach have a villa built there. In 1019 Maurice Leblanc buys le clos Lupin that you are nowadays welcomed to visit. Victor Hugo, Jules Massenet, Jérôme Bonaparte, and later on, René Coty, Félix Faure and Jules Michelet could also be seen in Etretat.

Today, just like yesterday, you will enjoy strolling around Courbet, Monet, Leblanc and Boudin’s terrasses along the beach, gambling at the casino, fishing, climbing up to the cliffs, having tea and pastries or shoping at the near by stores.

You will have the opportunity to play tennis and to golf in the most amazing surroundings, sailing, snorkling and surfing are also available.

Soleil du Matin being located right in the center of town, you are able to leave your car behind, unless you wish to go and visit the gorgeous palais de la Bénédictine in Fécamp or the more contemporary André Malraux Museum in Le Havre.
